Borealis' Blog

3 years, day 0

On the 28th of October 2023. Three years ago today, I started a journal in Obsidian.

I don't know exactly what caused me to want to journal in the first place. I never wrote about the reason. Something about the way I'm wired found it satisfying enough to continue year after year. It felt like I was building something. It still feels that way.

So far after hundreds and hundreds of hours I've learned how to make a new file, how to link one file to another... and that's about it. Most of my days ended up being me clicking into "normal journal", "March 2025" or whatever month it was, and writing [[23.March.2025]] clicking into it, and just thought-streaming for nobody to see. I'm not sure if 3 years of doing this made me a better writer, but I honestly can't remember what kind of person I was before the journal.

I wish this was like a super planned moment and that it was all intentional, but I actually signed up for this yesterday late into the night, and didn't think until right before drifting off to sleep "wait, won't it be the 28th of October tomorrow? That's my journal's anniversary. Wait that might be a good first blog." And now we're here.

I like the idea of Bear Blog. I like the idea of digital gardens. Something that grows over a long period of time. Hopefully this will grow too. A new thing to build and cultivate, this time a bit more public, but still as mine as ever.
